A few days ago I started writing about a Pyramid in Giza; I wrote this because during our travels we are going to Giza in Egypt and I thought I should find some information on one of the pyramids there. This was probably one of my favourite projects and I really enjoyed it. So now I am going to share this with you.
The Pyramid of Khufu
The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and the oldest of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex. The Pyramid of Khufu is one of the largest and still intact pyramids in the whole of Egypt. The iconic pyramid was made during 2580-2560 BC; the outside was made of white casing stone which was widely used for making pyramids.
Archeologists say that the majestic pyramid was made for a pharaoh called Khufu; it was originally built to the height of 146.5 meters and now in the modern day (due to erosion) it now stands at a height of 138.8 meters. The estimated mass of the pyramid is estimated at a whopping 5.9 million tons. Inside the Pyramid was Khufu’s chamber and also the Queen’s chamber. Both of these would be stuffed full of jewels and necklaces that they were given to take into the after life.
As in most pyramids there are many booby traps inside of the pyramid to protect the amazing building from thieves stealing the precious loot. It was hard for the archeologists to excavate the pyramid and had to work out the logic of the traps and try to bypass them. Even today we are amazed by how the Ancient Egyptians with so little technology could work out how to make their traps.
Even today we could not make buildings with this much stature and with their technology; that is why modern day humans admire these exceptional landmarks. This is why today so many tourists visit this pyramid each year Continue reading “The Pyramid of Khufu”
