The other day I wrote about lightning and how it was caused I found it very interesting. I hope you enjoy it !
What is Lightning?
Lightning is a bright flash of electricity caused by a thunderstorm. All thunderstorms produce lightning and lightning is dangerous. If you hear the sound of thunder you are at threat of being struck by lightning. Lightning kills and injures more people thane either hurricanes or tornadoes; on average 100 to 75 people die of lightning or are injured by lightning every year.
What Causes Lighting?
Lightning is an electric current. Within a thundercloud there are frozen raindrops that bump into each other when they are moving in the air. This causes an electric current, after a while this can cause a lot of different electric charge which fills the whole cloud with electricity. The positive charges form at the top and the negative charges form at the bottom, since opposites attract, this causes a positive charge to form at the ground below. The ground positive charges will go up as high as its can to try and reach the negative charges i.e. mountains, trees and people. Eventually the pull of the charges grown to strong and then- zap- lightning strikes. Now you know why lightning strikes trees and tall buildings.
Fork lightning is when a strike of lightning seems like it has multiple branches. This is one of the most deadly types of lightning; this is because of the branches it can strike in multiple different places. These need a lot of energy to be created and not seen that much.
